3.5

Ostensibly the main plot hook, I wish this book had had more of a focus on Ellena. The culmination of Adele's story also felt disconnected to the main premise, qith no self reflection or knowledge gained. The non-linear time jumping through the story could also have served as an easy way to see how Senegal changes over time and is affected by the various political and medical crises covered in the story, which would have been more interesting to me than the multiple British POVs. However, the compelling language and imagery made this book easy to consume. Re-readable.
