Im not crying... :')
Boy I thought this was going to be a happy camptrip but I was wrong.
So this book is about a complicated relationship between a mother and a daughter. The mother thinks her daughter doesn't have it in her to make it in the music world so she needs to go to a camp. This camp is tougher than expected. For Ingrid there's a lot of time to think about stuff in her life and just life in general. She meets a lot of diverse characters with problems and they trek together and need to really show themselves.
This book was so good omg, it was so emotional and raw. It was even funny at times. The characters all felt realistic, especially Ingrid and I loved to read about her past and her relationship with people. I thought this book also delt with heavier topics like depression really well.
This big is literally a hidden gem that needs a lot more praise and I think a lot of people can learn a lot from it and feel the same emotions as I did!

Writing the review of this book for me was so hard, because I was expecting to LOVE this book and there isn't a single review for this below 4 stars, but unfortunately it didn't turn out to be the case.
At the beginning it was so very hard of me to get into the book and the characters didn't seem engaging at first, and a lot of times (at first) I wanted to dnf this book. Then, slowly I started to enjoy it. I liked the depth of the story.
The One character that I adored in this book was Ingrid's stepfather.
Moving on to the epilogue: I didn't like it! It's like everything went back to the way it were before.

Spoiler
I knew from the beginning that the main character's mom was dead, but as the story progressed the author made it seem like her mother wasn't dead, so I started thinking that she indeed wasn't dead. Then there was the horrible moment in the last few chapters where she explained how her mother left and it felt like the ceiling came crashing down on me, it was such a heart breaking moment for me and I literally became emotional.
Survivalist hiking retreat? Realistic at-rick teens who are neither over-the-top nor Mary Sues? The past being dished out in believable and fitting increments? Yes please! I finished the audio book in two days (the reader is very good) and couldn't put it down. Story ends at the perfect spot, although the ending was a tad too YA (i.e. drama).
You guys, this was so good. Like, SO GOOD.
Read it read it read it READ IT.

A very compelling and emotional coming of age story. There were a couple continuity errors and I saw the ending coming a mile away, but that didn't matter. I know this is a book I will still be thinking of years down the road. I absolutely recommend this to anyone looking for a page turning YA!

Told in two parts: the “before” following Ingrid and her mother, who is a talented opera singer performing around Europe. It follows their lives up until Ingrid is accepted into this survivalist camping expedition for trouble teens: the “after”
