I read this in the hospital after an accident and I think it was quite fitting for my situation and helped bring perspective. I think it was well written and was able to convey to=he confusion of grief well.

Such a great book! I didn't really think about it at first, but it was a clever way to tell a story. She could have just written her past story and the trials she went through, but instead travel with Ingrid on her road to recovery in the woods on her trip while slowly discovering her past as she sifts through the memories. Such a neat story! I already had an idea how it was going to end, but I still loved it! It was extremely entertaining to read about her wilderness nightmare because of her snarky personality too. I always love characters with snark!

I bought this book for $3 because it said it was about a teenage girl attending a wilderness camp. As a former wilderness camp staff, they got me. This, however, is no ordinary wilderness camp. This is an extreme wilderness camp for at-risk teens where some deep emotional work is being done.
The main character, Ingrid, was upset already when she found out her parents were sending her to camp. When she found out it was a deep bush, no bathrooms, backpacking camp she was furious. The reader jumps back and forth between the present at camp and the past. Ingrid is a genuinely funny character. We get to watch her go through the hardship and growth as well as laugh at the embarrassing. The other campers are equally well-written and help give a broader scope to what challenges and changes can happen when out in the bush. We see Ingrid work through her struggles and the home life that brought them about in the first place. At least the beginning steps to working through.
I was shocked the book was so good and feel like it has been majorly slept on. People need to start reading this book: adults and teens.

Recensione: http://wefoundwonderlandinbooks.blogspot.it/2018/03/recensione-nei-miei-occhi-il-tuo-cielo.html

Ingrid is taking part in Peak Wilderness on a promise. If she completes the trip, she gets to go to the school of her dreams in England. But Peak Wilderness isn't anything like how Ingrid expected it to be. What she thought would be cabins and fun, outdoor activities were actually harsh nights of camping and brutal days of hiking. The story follows Ingrid as she struggles to make it through the difficult three weeks with a bunch of strangers who are all there for very different reasons.

What I particularly loved about this story was the various ways in which it was told. We got to jump between the past and present to gradually get the whole picture as to how and why Ingrid ended up at Peak Wilderness, and then there were the letters. Throughout the book, Ingrid writes letters that she never intends to send, but help her get her feelings out, putting them all onto the page. This variety in the storytelling kept things interesting and also kept me guessing as to what events had occurred in Ingrid's past.

Ingrid herself was a wonderful character to read about. Despite the situation she'd found herself thrown into, she managed to find determination to get through the difficult days. It was interesting to see how she reacted to the other characters and to watch her opinions of them change over time. She had a bit of everything to offer with her sarcasm, her wit, and her strength that grew throughout the book. Her turbulent relationship with her mother was heartbreaking but also beautiful at times. The writing really drove home the sadness and desperation that follows a career in the spotlight being pulled from right beneath a person's feet.

I'll admit that I'm difficult to please when it comes to romance in contemporary stories, so I was happy to see that the romantic relationships in this book didn't have any typically cheesy instalove attached to it. It wasn't what I expected, so I was pleasantly surprised! The journey that Ingrid and the other characters had to endure was gritty and tough, but I felt a sense of pride as they grew stronger through it. The secondary characters were all interesting in their own right, and it actually made me interested to learn more about them outside of Ingrid's story.

Whilst this book undoubtedly had it's more tragic elements, there was a sense of hope and determination underneath it all. With several issues being discussed, this story is a powerful one and these characters aren't easily forgettable.

Charming, sweet, sad book. The dual narratives wove together nicely, and had perfect pace aligning themes. Often, two storylines (even with the same character) can compete with each other, or lose their footing, but these stayed in step. The main character was witty and fun to read, while the story itself was originally uplifting yet melancholy. Somehow, the dichotomy worked.

4.5 stars... This was beautifully written. So relatable, and Ingrid grew so much. The character development was stellar, and the construction of the book was done perfectly.
It had little unexpected twists here and there, and it wrenched my heart out in the last two chapters. There is nothing I can really fault with it. I’m so glad I read this book!
