.Meh. There was nothing WRONG with this book, but there was nothing incredibly RIGHT with it either. It was such an even storyline, there never felt like there was a story arc.

Sarina has a great life, great job, great boyfriend when a one night stand comes back to town. I guess you can see the story in two ways, she suddenly realizes what is missing in her life, or how I saw it, she suddenly began looking for problems with her boyfriend where there were previously none.

She was half in and half out of both relationships for almost the entire book. I never got a feeling that Eamon suddenly found that she was his great love.

It was a good story, well written, the characters were likable. It just never lit that spark for me, although the fault may well be mine, as I'm feeling really distracted this week. But it's been a long time since it look me a whole week to finish a book.

If you like Emily Giffin and other authors like her, you will enjoy this book. Sarina and Eamon had a fling/one night stand in college. They have a mutual friend (her roommate Danny) in common.

Years later, she is a successful architect living in Austin and he is an Olympic swimmer trying to settle down. They meet again and sparks fly!

Oh - and she has a serious boyfriend who is ready to make the next step. He is also living in Argentina. And the chemistry with Eamon is undeniable!

Things happen in her life and she needs someone to talk to, and turns mostly to Eamon. You know where this is going!

I felt the characters were all colorful and well developed! And I found myself totally rooting for Sarina & Eamon!

A fun read! Recommend it!

Thank you Netgalley & Random House/Ballentine for my ARC copy. It was my pleasure to read it and give you my honest review!

I loved this book until about 75% and then I got a little frustrated with the back and forth and lack of communication. Still a great story and an author I'll be auto buying in the future!

**Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to receive the Kindle version of this book in exchange for an honest review**

I enjoyed this book by debut author Bethany Chase. It was a light read and reminded me of Jennifer Weiner. The book follows Sarina who is an architect and in a serious relationship with Noah. They have been dating for 4 years and are currently long distance due to his job. They started dating after Sarina had a short fling with her roomate Danny's friend, Eamon. She had a hard time getting over Eamon when he never called her and she was left wondering what happened. When Eamon shows up 7 years later and decides to move to Sarina's town she is anxious and nervous to see him. He also needs an architect and she takes on the job. They have a very easy friendship and get along great. This leaves Sarina wondering if she is with the right person.

The story is warm, charming, and romantic without getting too deep. You want Eamon and Sarina to get together the whole time and there are plenty of missed opportunities for them to act on their obvious feelings. I felt bad for Noah and didn't think he deserved how Sarina treated him towards the end. She dragged things out a little too much with both Eamon and Noah and should have been more honest with then both. The author wrote a second book about Eamon's brother and also has Eamon and Sarina in it which I look forward to reading.

The One That Got Away is a typical book-version of a “chick flick” (“chick lit”) and it is cute and charming with all the standard thematic elements-friendship, love, loss, etc. The main character, Sarina, is engaged to her longtime boyfriend, Noah, and lives with her gay best friend, Danny. Danny’s friend and Sarina’s ex-fling, Eamon, moves back to town and Sarina becomes his architect for a home renovation. The main character irritated me occasionally throughout the novel, and overall the book was okay.

This started out so so so good. The opening paragraph can pull anyone to stop and read and just devour this book. The writing is enthralling. However, I do not like Sarina. SPOILER here: I did not like the she was the only one who apologized to Eamon when he made a mistake too, at least in my point of view. She sounded like a 17 yr. old girl instead of a grown woman. One thing I learned from this book is that the people who are meant to be in our lives will always find their way back in.

Many thanks to NetGalley for providing me a copy of this book to review.

The One That Got Away centers around Sarina, a young architect. Sarina has been dating Noah, a lawyer currently working overseas, for four years. Eamon, a former Olympic swimmer and a prior fling of Sarina's, comes back into town. Sarina never knew why Eamon did not contact her after one night, but realizes she still has feelings for him. The story seems relatively predictable, but I was able to overlook that since I liked so many other things about the book.

I loved the characters, particularly Sarina's friends Danny and Nicole. The writing drew me in and made me want to keep reading. I also liked Sarina's unique occupation and the descriptions about her work. I look forward to reading more about these characters in Chase's next novel.
