"the floor never did open up and swallow you, no matter how badly you might wish it."

"intellectually, i understand what you're saying. it's just taking my emotions a little while to catch up. you know, it's quite terrifying to not be in control of what is happening to you."

"goodness, the things that fell out of her mouth on this trip."

"slowly sanity set in, along with a clash of conflicting emotions that ricocheted like brightly colored billiard balls around in her head."

"whoa nelly. don't panic, it was just a thought. of course they didn't know each other and falling in love that fast with a near total stranger was inconceivable, and... blah blah blah. she let the supposedly calm, logical part of her mind babble away. in the meantime, she had more important things to do. she met his kiss halfway."

Another lovely novella in the Elder Races series. This one told the story of Olivia, friend of Grace, the Oracle, meeting her Mate, Sebastian, an Eagle Owl Wyr.

Olivia is hired on to a team that has to travel to the Other land island that was once Carling's to retrieve her library. She meets Sebastian, the leader of the team. The attraction is immediate, on her part at least. As she travels with Sebastian, she is confused by his distant manner from everyone on the team and is curious why he constantly wears sunglasses, even when he doesn't need to.

Sebastian is going blind. He was cursed by a shaman on his last job and has been slowly losing his vision since then. He has utilized every resource and massive finances to find a way to reverse the curse. Sebastian has almost given up hope and took the lead on this job to have something to do so he doesn't focus on his condition.

Things between Sebastian and Olivia really heated when she is almost compelled by Julian, Carling's progeny and King of the NIghtkind. Sebastian becomes protective and almost attacks Julian. His protectiveness does it for Olivia and before you know it, they are a couple. A really adorable couple. On the island Olivia is almost killed and the scare makes Sebastian realize that he wants a life with Olivia and is willing to do anything, even the seemingly impossible like speaking to the Oracle, to have that chance.

While the hero and heroine are an interesting pair, the minor characters also made this a fun story, Bailey, Sebastian's right hand is sassy, and I love sassy! She seems like fun. However, Phaedra, is a hoot! She is such an intriguing character that I do hope she gets her own story at some point.

Like all the other novellas in this series, this one added another layer of depth and understanding to the world of the Elder Races and I am eager to see where their stories take me.

Another story in the Elder Races universe, featuring a cursed Eagle Owl Wyr male and a gifted human female who are both part of the team sent to retrieve Carling's extensive library.

The attraction between them is intense and obvious from the start, neither hesitates to act upon it and their romance was one I really enjoyed listening to.

The glimpses of familiar characters from previous books that are usually part of the short stories make the world seem three-dimensional and realistic.

Next in the series comes [b:Kinked|15808775|Kinked (Elder Races, #6)|Thea Harrison|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1381616002l/15808775._SY75_.jpg|21533417] and the story of the harpy Aryal and the new Sentinel Quentin, who seemed to hate each other. I look forward to seeing how they end up a couple!

If you decide to read just one of the Elder Races novellas, it should be this one. It’s easily a cut above the rest with the romance, strong characterisation and link to the main series. Sebastian and Olivia might stumble into a whirlwind relationship, but you’re quickly convinced of how well they would fit together. They’re a bit older and a bit wiser and have reached a point in their lives in which they can compromise and build a new existence together.

A major plot point in this novella is Sebastian’s struggle with accepting his growing disability -- a curse is turning him blind -- and how Olivia and him negotiate their relationship around it. This made their relationship both feel older and more realistic than some of the previous novellas. Harrison shines when she gets to spend time on interpersonal relationships and I got the impression she had a lot of fun with this one.

Talking about mature vibes and heavy topics, there’s even a conversation in which the male main character stops his partner from victim blaming herself, which is frankly revolutionary for something that was published in 2013. This series continues to delight me with how it manages to address these heavier topics in a fantastical setting.

I love all the Elder Race shorts!!

This one continues the story about Carlings magic library needing to be removed off her island. The main couple are Sebastian-an owl wyr-and Olivia, who is an expert at handling magical books. Their story was really sweet.

You get to see Grace and kahlil in the beginning, and Kahlil's daughter is in most of the story. I am hoping to see more from her in the coming novels.

Next up in the series is "Kinked", which comes out November 5th. Really excited!!

I gotta be honest, this one got an extra star because I'm a sucker for librarians. Write their nerdness clearly and I swoon. What cost it a star was the denouement. The villain's motivation wasn't unforeseen, it's just...how do I put it? The motivation behind that motivation made me a little disappointed. I prefer more
intrigue and conspiracies over rich people's covetousness.
Then the wrap up just had too perfect a bow on it. Not awful, just would have preferred a little more from the story.

Thea Harrison never disappoints with this series. For PNR they are a cut above, even the novellas.

Not my favorite book in the series but it's alright, I'll still continue with the series. I like the story about Dragos and Pia a lot but I hope the book on a secondary character is better than this one.

I bought this. I bought it ‘cos I’m a fan J

I fricking love this series and this one was a brilliant addition to the series. A novella, this tells the story of the lovely Olivia and the very gruff Sebastian. It was all kinds of awesome and reminded me a little of book one in some ways. I adored it!

Olivia is the friend of Grace the Oracle, so I got to see Khalil again.... this makes me happy J In her own right, I knew that Olivia would be a strong heroine (Thea Harrison always writes awesome female leads) but I couldn’t get past one issue; she was human. I am used to the elder races having massively extended lifespans and I didn’t know how this issue would be addressed (let’s be honest, it always is an issue with human/vamp stories). Anyway, I digress. What did I think of Olivia? I really liked her. She didn’t shy away from her attraction to the grumpy Sebastian but allowed it grow. The way she handled his curse made me respect her even more; her we’ll fix it or cope attitude was refreshing and just solidified her strength in my eyes.

Sebastian is a grumpy, alpha man who has a secret. He had the air of age and arrogance that I loved so much about Dragos and he never seemed anything but serious. He realises very quickly that he is attracted to her and I adored the way that he just decided that, if she would have him, he wanted her. He seemed so aloof with everyone else but, with her, he opened up about things (like his lack of sight) and I wanted them together. Another magnificent pairing from Thea Harrison.

There was a fair amount of sexy times in this book much to my joy! Although the series itself isn’t sex-shy, this book seemed to take it up a step or two in this camp. Each scorching scene made me realise how well suited these characters and I really wanted them to succeed.

Overall, this was a fabulous novella and it gave me a much needed Elder World fix. I’d like to see more of these two characters in the future books and loved the steaminess in this one J
