lol I don’t understand the hype. Besides a few well written sentences, this was terrible.

Good morning; [Disclosure]: I don’t have it in me to read slow. If I stop then I neglect the book altogether and don’t return to it. I’m just doing the same thing I’d be doing if I was somewhere else. The lighting is so much better here, I can see better. While I’m here I just wish to take it easy and soak up as much as I can. Don’t be envious that you might have to work today and I don’t, because you are more fortunate than I, and I have less needs than others do. Only thing to do around here is read. That being said, I have this one today.

The movie was great. They could’ve shown some penis. Other than that, great movie, and Ennio’s father’s speech at the end was so well done. The book too, incredibly well written. Pacing is smooth, the intimacy shared with Oliver was neither underplayed or just too much, the moment they call one another the other’s name is an evanescent sugar dissolved over an absinthe. Sweet and delectable.

“From this moment on, I thought, from this moment on-I had, as I’d never before in my life, the distinct feeling of arriving somewhere very dear, of wanting this forever, of being me, me, me, me, and no one else,”

I’m lucky too. My experience is just this… like I’m living in a buddhist vacuum judging and weighing my dharma. How do I treat sick people? Have I learned something everyday of my life? I get to just sit back and observe my feelings about things, all of my life has been a big lesson. One thing I just falter, this author describes things as “Heaven”; and I guess I actually feel kinda phobic about that. Like I can’t trust this author, not cause they’re a jew but because of their influence. I don’t believe in heaven. Forcing it down my throat isn’t gonna change me anymore than its gonna repulse me; as in the former, Savages… Heavenly gives me the creeps. Wormholes of time is more of my thing.

My brother Ryland is the best man I’ve ever known.

“…and watching others forget us sooner than we’d want to be forgotten is no better.”

a devastatingly beautiful, casually noncasual, all-enveloping obsession of a boy longing for someone new. a lust for life and love and connection with another bringing new experiences. a telling of what is/was and what could have been. later!

I loved the movie so I’m surprised that I didn’t love this book that much, even thought it was a pretty faithful adaptation! I think the main difference was hearing Elio’s thoughts in the book, which are just constant obsessive thoughts about Oliver. I know that it’s meant to showcase obsession, but man it made reading the book feel almost like a frantic experience. Here’s my best attempt at writing a review in the style of this book:

“If entered this dreamlike yet frantic state of obsession and love, perhaps which are the same thing, my mind would feel as though it was perpetually overwhelmed like a child’s desperately trying to attain their favorite toy. Perhaps if the maelstrom of life wasn’t already twisting my psyche around, I would find enjoyment in the dizzying eddy of youthful discovery of the urge to become one with another.

But yet. I did not. The stress and agony and pretentious writing style and pointless philosophy turned me away and wrenched my love of this book out of the depths of possibility. I’ll want to call it my problem, because to call it bad writing would break my heart.”

So yeah, I found this writing style stressful/hard to read
