This book was a trainwreck. I have no idea why the last chapter wasn't just cut out of the book...

This had a lot of potential but ended up just being super sloppy. I was really hooked in the beginning. About 10% in, I realized I forgot to add it to my currently reading on Goodreads and saw that it had a decent amount of low reviews. I decided to stick with it but I should have heeded the warning. I really enjoyed A Simple Favor but this didn't live up. I didn't like a single character other than JD and truly didn't care what happened to them. I will say it was a quick read so I do not feel like I wasted my time reading it.

2.5 stars. Sadly. I loved Darcey Bell’s two prior novels but this one missed the mark. Would definitely still read her next book.

A gripping, psychological, gaslighting mystery. I understand the poor reviews, and respect the betrayal the reader experiences when faced with the final shocking chapter. However, this is a well-plotted, intelligently crafted story that will haunt my thoughts. Is a good story one that makes sense or one that elicits a passionate response? Hmm... perhaps the reader is the one being gaslighted?
