I’ve read every single Scarlett’s book (all within the past 3 years) and loved them all. But for some reason, this wasn’t my favorite. It seemed to start really slow and I felt that 120 pages in, I was still waiting to get excited and sucked into the plot. The ending was better than the beginning but I’m disappointed that I didn’t enjoy it nearly as much as the others.

I've been reading Cornwall's Scarpetta series since I was 15 and #28 is comfortingly much the same.

I love these books because of the predictable format, consistent characters and easy plot...but it is a predictable monotony that may be a turn off for the next reader.
Scarpetta does waffle on with word count increasing detail that is probably not relevant, Marino is still having a tantrum about his unrequited love and the killer....well it's like a big family reunion.

I really wish Cornwall would get back to the gritty fascination with forensics.
But will I buy the next book, absolutely! Did I still enjoy this book, yes!
