On my earlier reads as a teenager, I didn't like this as much as the others. Now that I'm older I can understand the gravity of tne situation and it's all so devastating, undedstanding how traumatized Katniss and the others were. It shows the horrible results of war and revolutions, propaganda and hope. Not to beat a dead horse, but there is a point to the love triangle and that is made clear in the ending. Maybe knowing the story and what is to come makes certain *moments* even more devastating, like watching a play unfold knowing you can't warn the hero of what is to come. Suzanne Collins might have written the most important series of books about the end of an authoritarian dystopian regime.

The first half of Mockingjay drags a bit and the second half flies. I loved that Suzzanne Collins pulled no punches. Every death feels like wound to the reader without seeming gratuitous. Katniss and Peeta finding their way back to one another through the brainwashing, horrors of the games, loss of their homes and families, and their own self-worth issues is beautiful. I wish we did have a little longer to see them find one another again. The epilogue of this book will alter your brain chemistry. I get chills even thinking about the final line.

this book wrecks me everytime. i will never forget seeing the author comment on
prim’s death, and if it was always the plan
and she said that was the whole point. IT IS.
