Reading this again after so many years the pain wasn’t diminished at all. This one doesn’t shy away from the ugly horrors of war and the real costs on every side.

The stuff with Gale and peeta can get a bit awkward at times but it's a great book

The part that really tanked the score for me in this book was how the little sister we had been trying to save the entire time dies near the end. I think it would have had a stronger emotional impact if she had survived but suffered injuries to her hands, preventing her from becoming a doctor as she had hoped.

“And if we burn, you burn with us!”

Suzanne Collins really did her big one with this trilogy. Each chapter ends with you in a chokehold…leaving you wanting to read more. It’s hard to put the books down.
NGL, the end of the book was underwhelming. I’d happily read 50-100 additional pages that would properly end the story rather than the condensed route she chose. It kind of felt similar to a show being cancelled well before it’s been written to end so they have to cram in everything you’d want to know within a limited time.

The movies still don’t do the books justice.  While I wouldn’t rewatch them any time soon, the books I would..
