Overall, of course the book is very sad; it's war, after all, and the author doesn't shy from it.

I listened to this because I never got to complete reading the series as a teenager. However the writing.. yikes. It felt like the story was written in bullet point format. Then we would get in depth dream like explanations when they were least wanted. *Minor spoiler* We are in 13s bunker for like 60% of the book.
The characters are still loveable. (I LOVE that Katniss is a total bitch!! I ENJOY it!!) The story still holds up after all this time. I can’t wait to watch the movies again.

This particular part stuck out to me on this reread:
“Are you preparing for another war, Plutarch?”
“Oh, not now. Now we’re in the sweet period where everyone agrees that our recent horrors should never be repeated” “But collective thinking is short lived. We’re fickle, stupid beings with poor memories and a great gift for self-destruction”
This rings true, even now with the state of the world I fear we are repeating history we vowed never to repeat again. Despite how disappointing this is, Mockingjay reminds me that there is hope and we can find peace after difficult times.

Surprising plot twists and unique developments and flavor and intrigue. The last chapter and following epilogue bring appreciated closure and hope.

I'm so glad that S.C. decided to give readers more information about Panem, through the new book additions. Can't wait to reread Snow's story again and now to discover, in depth, the tragedy that were Haymitch's Games.
