Better than I remember it being, and definitely better than Catching Fire. My main issue with the book is how slow some of it was. I also wish there just hadn't been an epilogue, to be honest. I would've preferred to see the FMC heal than jump ahead to the "after." I would've liked to see the same from the MMC.

Overall, of course the book is very sad; it's war, after all, and the author doesn't shy from it.

Did not slap as hard as the movies.

I listened to this because I never got to complete reading the series as a teenager. However the writing.. yikes. It felt like the story was written in bullet point format. Then we would get in depth dream like explanations when they were least wanted. *Minor spoiler* We are in 13s bunker for like 60% of the book.

The characters are still loveable. (I LOVE that Katniss is a total bitch!! I ENJOY it!!) The story still holds up after all this time. I can’t wait to watch the movies again.

I’m incapable of rating the hunger games series less than 5 stars.

This particular part stuck out to me on this reread:
“Are you preparing for another war, Plutarch?”
“Oh, not now. Now we’re in the sweet period where everyone agrees that our recent horrors should never be repeated” “But collective thinking is short lived. We’re fickle, stupid beings with poor memories and a great gift for self-destruction”

This rings true, even now with the state of the world I fear we are repeating history we vowed never to repeat again. Despite how disappointing this is, Mockingjay reminds me that there is hope and we can find peace after difficult times.

The sad irony that comes to close the trilogy is emotional yet symbolically powerful. Seeing the changes throughout compared to how things started in The Hunger Games and the way it shapes Katniss plus those around her is captivating.
Surprising plot twists and unique developments and flavor and intrigue. The last chapter and following epilogue bring appreciated closure and hope.

It was the third time I've read this book, since they were first published. In over ten years, my love for The Hunger Games world has only grown.

The story, the characters, the writing. Everything is flawless.

I'm so glad that S.C. decided to give readers more information about Panem, through the new book additions. Can't wait to reread Snow's story again and now to discover, in depth, the tragedy that were Haymitch's Games.

A great finish to the trilogy but in my opinion not as good as the first too but certainly not disappointing.
