This series should be revisited by us who read it as kids. I cannot believe the new truths and unfathomable horrors uncovered by reading it again 13 years later.

Reading this series growing up, I really hated Mockingjay and thought it ruined the whole series. As an adult, knowing who dies and where the story goes, having experienced trauma of my own, i was able to appreciate it for how masterful it is. She describes trauma and PTSD so incredibly accurately, the types of decisions that are made and the person Katniss becomes show so many nuanced and incredibly profound experiences. Honestly, i kind of hated it a bit because of how real the trauma felt. But it’s also what makes this book incredible. This is a series you can reread 100 times and always find new meaning and understanding in.

Tatiana Maslaney is an INCREDIBLE narrator

⭐️🎧Audiobook Reader🎧⭐️

What a way to end a series, my goodness. In this finale, you are acutely aware of how the characters are irreparably affected by trauma. Trauma that I don't think is accurately described as PTSD because there is no time to be post-traumatized, when the war is still ongoing.

You also follow them through their healing processes (I love the details with Finnick's knots being adopted by the others and Katniss' mantra). In this book, we get a succinct and effective happy ending in the epilogue, but it's not nearly enough for how upset I am😭 Here I come fanfiction! lol

The sheer number of losses of named characters is I think meant to reflect the overall losses that took place in the whole of Panem 'cause damn, they were dropping like flies.

Collins' signature pacing shines once again as there is not a dull moment anywhere.
Weaving the narrative into Katniss' flashbacks making them relevant to the story as a way to gauge Katniss' current mental state,
*chef's kiss*, masterfully done. It all makes sense now that she was a seasoned TV writer before coming up with this series evident through the 3-Part arc and careful handling of the subplots.

Catherine McCormick shines again as the audiobook voice, though I feel like in some places, the direction lacked as I think the wrong voices were used only a couple times. Otherwise, ex. cell. ent.
