Beautifully written and executed, this book sheds much needed light on the trauma of going un/misdiagnosed, of knowing something is wrong with you but being unable to articulate it to those around you, and of the racism and sexism that gets in the way of proper care (both from doctors and friends). I raced through this book unlike anything I have read in the last two years, and it meant the world to see another "bad sick person" refusing to back down to an unruly body. Thank you, Porochista, for this wonderful memoir.

A devastating kind of read that I needed as a fellow queer person of color trying to make sense of my experience with chronic pain and disability. Khakpour writes with the kind of honesty that reminds you that the vicissitudes of illness can absolutely be contradiction, paradox, unknowing. But there is life in between, in all the spaces that sometimes fade out of view when we cross into the kingdom of the sick.

I have decided to DNF this book a little less than hundred pages before it ends. I can't read this anymore. It started really well and I was really interested in knowing about it, but the second half became really tedious & repetitive. There are too many tangents and turnabouts, too few important events. I give this 2.5 stars.
