Shut up, everybody.
In this book, a lady rides an orca and has a polar bear for a sidekick.
If that's not enough to convince you to buy the book, then your time is running out.
Orca. Polar bear. You really need to take a hard look at your reading choices.
"Blackfish City" is a detailed look at a future Earth after we messed it up, and author Sam J. Miller brings the society thereupon to life. The human drama balances with the sheer fun that Miller appears to be having in creating. The story focuses on love and family, but also on action and adventure.

This book was so cool. The writing is gorgeous, the world-building is ambitious, the characters feel so real, and the plot… well, there wasn’t as much of it as I usually want. But in this case I didn’t care, because there was just so much imaginative development and visceral description. A perfect combination of science and magic, social commentary, dystopia and utopia, groundedness and absurdity.
"Fine line between good business and a fucking warcrime," he said. "Ain't that the goddamn epitaph of capitalism?"
Sprinted through this one for a bookclub. Blackfish City has a lot going for it (namely the concept and characters), but is ultimately less than the sum of its parts thanks to the stilted dialogue and half-baked climaxes.

This book felt like New York 2140 combined with the golden compass. Nanobot bonded orca warrior woman? Sign me up! So enjoyable as everything came together in the middle, but then it flew apart. Still, I really liked it.
