Blackfish City

Loved the world building, didn't like the ending..... at all. (But it was not my story to tell)
Still worth a read and the COVER GLOWS IN THE DARK... Just an FYI

2.5 - 3 stars

It's the characters that are the highlight, every one is so diverse, and I found myself slowly becoming attached to each of them.

But the downsides almost outweighed this unfortunately... I felt like 'City without a map' was meant to have more significance, or impact. But it was kind of lost on me. I found I glossed over most of those sections....

I loved the relationship of Liam and Kaev, or Liam and Soq, but the nano-bonding wasn't explored as much as I would have enjoyed. The focus was lost on pages and pages, of intricate technical details about the city's functions. For me that complicated things, and made it harder to become absorbed in the world.

Less geothermal vents, more polar bears please.

To sum up, if the characters hadn't intrigued me so much, I may have abandoned ship. I could tell that beneath it all, there is a decent story, I just wish I could have enjoyed it more...

An inventive world that tackles the darker side of urban capitalism after a global collapse. Characters who question roles and identity and the choices we have to each other.

I really enjoyed this book and thought it upsettingly topical. The way it depicted the 1% turning everyone else against one another instead of blaming the true offenders reflected society today just made more blatant.

Such a fantastic and fun and imaginative read. The world I got to create and explore in my mind was beautifully described with characters I absolutely adored.

Kaev basically tics all the boxes for a favourite character of mine, and Soq is close behind him. They’re both incredibly unique and enjoyable characters with enjoyable points of view on the world around them.
