Whenever I read a novel that (however obliquely) looks at potential consequences of climate change (& the potential consequences of shitty decision making) it always reinforces my belief that we need to get our shit together, if not now then soon. But I'm also nearly always heartened by how they reiterate how great human ingenuity can be, how we can adapt, how their scenarios can present solutions or, at least the hope that we'll find some.
This applies to Blackfish City too, but, as well as all that, it's also just a cracking good story, with great world-building (though the themes are a little different, the city of Qaanaq, and the atmosphere in general, reminded me a lot of Blade Runner, reinforced by the amount of noodles the characters consume :D) and characters. I was going to say how much I loved Soq in particular but I really did love all the main protagonists.
Definitely give this a try if you're an SF fan, and even if you're not, give it a go (;D) anyway. You might be pleasantly surprised!
