Really interesting worldbuilding but not the vibes/aesthetic I thought it would have based on the cover/synopsis lol. I liked the generational plot but struggled with the prose/pacing, but that's my personal preference! I do love Miller's short fiction tho

Sooo good, so relevant, so compelling. The worldbuilding, the underlying themes, and the way the different storylines all came together was incredible. I wasn't sure how it could possibly end in a way that wasn't either super depressing or super unrealistic, but that needle was threaded perfectly and ended on solid and hopeful. Highly recommend when you feel able to handle something a little Too Real.

This book tries to do so much - building a new world, describing a new disease, introducing a new form of human/animal bonding - and it may have been too much to take on. Any of these concepts on their own, as the book describes them could have been the primary plot point. In my humble opinion trying to weave them all together made the story weaker. That said, they are all interesting concepts to think and read about so the book was still enjoyable.
