It's hard not to read this without thinking of the context of 2001 America which, even before 9/11, is incredibly nationalistic and self-righteous. So I found it hard to take serious a story that has enemies coming together for a just war against mindless drones when this can hardly describe US involvement in the Middle East. I'm hoping volume 2 will do something to raise the moral stakes beyond "do the ends justify the means" because I worry what the writers think the answer to that should be. That all said there is great and compelling action scenes throughout. The art, especially that by Mike Wieringo and Doug Mahnke, is also great.
