dark mysterious fast-paced

The plot closure of this book felt the weakest to me in the series yet.

At the end of the novel I felt I had the following questions (I listed to the audio book, so pardon any spelling mistakes in character names):
1. Was there ever something in Pat and Jenny’s attic? There were animal bones, scratches, and an enlarged hole, etc. If the situation was imagined, what caused these things?
2. What was causing the psychosis being experienced by Pat and Jenny? Just one of them I could buy, but Jenny forgetting entire chunks of her days, and eventually the children seeing the “animal” as well….? I was honestly waiting for someone to discover a carbon monoxide leak - it would have explained a lot of the behaviour, and fit in with the shoddy building narrative. It would have been an overall sad accident with no one really responsible in the end.
3. Detective Kennedy!?

I understand that it is the nature of her novels to leave loose ends, but this one had too many for me.

I think this was the best of French's Dublin Murder Squads yet! I was highly intrigued by the story and didn't have a clue to the actual killer in the end. What a surprise twist! I thought I had it figured out but then that's what French was wanting you to think - brilliant.

Good but very detailed narration. Took a while to get anywhere.

I really enjoy how Tana French writes each of her novels in a different perspective depending on the personality of the protagonist. A few twists and turns, you are never truly sure who has committed the crime until the end. Looking forward to more of her novels.

Tana French is extremely reliable author. When I pick one up one of her books, I know I'm going to get an intricately plotted novel that expertly combines psychological mystery, criminal procedural and deeply personal drama.

Like the others, this one had me hooked from page one and I was desperate to know the answers to all the many little questions and mysteries that arise throughout the novel.

I didn't love this one quite as much as the first 2 in the series, [b:In the Woods|237209|In the Woods (Dublin Murder Squad, #1)|Tana French|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1348442606s/237209.jpg|3088141] and [b:The Likeness|1914973|The Likeness (Dublin Murder Squad, #2)|Tana French|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1348934952s/1914973.jpg|6504351], but I did prefer it to the third one, [b:Faithful Place|7093952|Faithful Place (Dublin Murder Squad, #3)|Tana French|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1291165900s/7093952.jpg|7350661]. That being said, I have really enjoyed them all and look forward to the next one.

the 2009 housing crisis was hard on us all but like...don't do what happens here

Each book follows a detective pair from the Dublin Police Force as they solve a crime. Each book can be read as a stand-alone…. but why would you do that when you have 6 perfect books in a series?!

My review:
I’m reviewing all 6 of these books together because while they all have different plots and story lines there is nothing I would say differently about each one. They are all phenomenal! In my opinion, Tana French has written the best detective driven thriller/mystery books I’ve ever read.

Each book is written in a way that really draws you in. Each storyline, either in the past or present, hooks you. I stayed up late reading them all because I could not put them down.

Most times when I’m reading a thriller, the whole time in the front of my mind I’m trying to figure out who did it. Who’s the killer? But with these books that part was really pushed to the back of my mind. Of course I wanted to know and to solve the mystery, but I really cared so much more about the story. Read this series!! You won’t be disappointed!
