Five friends from university reuniting at a Danish lake house - a midsummer night's utopia?

Not after Karen and Esben announce that their wedding takes place at the end of the week and Gry brings not only the kids but her stoic husband Adam too.

Sylvia wants Esben. And why shouldn't she have it all? Well, for one, her girlfriend Charlie is a fan of monogamy. But with the announcement of the wedding, everything begins to unravel.

Quince and Adam were everything.
Honorable mention: Peach juice.

A hot and messy read.

Reading this made me quite sad because all the friends seem to hate each other and I found their perspectives and the way they thought about each other deeply depressing. I guess part of the point is that they are insufferable people but it was too much and the book didn’t feel like it really criticised their pretentiousness.

There might be people who really appreciate this type of book. I am not one of them. I did not buy that these people had ever been friends, their friendship felt so performative and artificial. Everyone was unhappy and deluded and horny and annoying the whole time. I did like Quince though, and kept reading only for him.
