Older man is in love with older woman in the apartment below his, but he's shy about talking to her. Older woman adores her pet tortoise, but wishes it would grow bigger. So older man concocts an elaborate scheme to trick older woman into thinking he has a magical tortoise-growth spell.

Hilarity and romance ensue.

Well, some romance, anyway.

This could have used a plot twist or two, and perhaps a bit more care for poor Alfie, the original pet tortoise.

Short, sweet, silly, and a lot of heart! Fun to read a story of his that I had never read before!

Do not read this book to your kids! Mr. Hoppy is a terrible person.

The writing style and the illustrations were cute, but the overall story line was creepy. Mr. Hoppy manipulates his love interest, but there’s never any fallout of his actions. I can understand that if Mr. Hoppy had been discovered and both characters had grown as people they might end up together, but that’s not what happened at all.
At least the safety and happiness of the original turtle was confirmed at the end of the story.

This is not the best Roald Dahl book that I've read and (this is very rare for me to say) I prefer the TV adaption to this because it told a different perspective on the characters and it was narrated by James Corden.
The issues with this book are mainly due to the two characters featured in it: Mrs Silver and Mr Hoppy and that the story didn't really grab me and I felt the story wasn't a strong story like The Twits is. This is a short review because I don't have anything else to say about the book itself due to not liking the story too much.
