Whilst I enjoyed this book, I’m slightly put off by the fact that he got rid her tortoise that she’d had for many years. :-/ I mean come on. That’s mean.
You can't beat Roald Dahl for a weird, wonderful, some what sinister slice of reading magic. This sweet little tale is somewhat out of character. But no less brilliant. Quentin Blake's wacky & slightly demented illustrations (as always) are the perfect accompaniment. Love it!

this used to be a favourite of mine from my childhood but re-reading it was such a mistake. it’s cruel and irresponsible and yeah, i know it’s just a children’s book but christ, it does not leave a good impression.
