I read this over and over as a 9/10 year old. I appreciated Marian taking action and not being the girl who sat around, waiting for Robin to come save her.
Marian's best friend is Robin of Locksley and, while he isn't a wuss, he certainly isn't as daring or inclined to go off "having adventures". They have a sweet friendship as I remember.
