Cursed Bunny is a short story collection that somewhat resembles the Twilight Zone.

The Head ⭐⭐.5 - I was not quite sure what to make of this story. I neither liked nor disliked this story; I left it feeling indifferent. However, I have questions about how unconcerned the family was about this head randomly appearing.

The Embodiment ⭐⭐⭐.5 - okay, wow that ending! This story was full of judgmental people judging a situation that had nothing to do with them. Also, whilst reading this story, I realised that no one in this Twilight Zone themed book questions anything!

Cursed Bunny ⭐⭐⭐ - this one had quite a slow start. However, it picked up the pace during the curse part, although the ending to the curse part was quite rushed. The ending to the story seemed meh.

The Frozen Finger ⭐⭐⭐ - this story was a mix of being predictable yet having no clue what was happening. There are a lot of questions.

Snare ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - I liked this one a lot. It was gory and weird, which is right up my street.

Goodbye, My Love ⭐⭐ - stories about AI aren't really my sort of thing.

Scars ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 - this is my favourite story in this short story collection. I found this story engrossing and sad. However, I did find the ending a bit weird; nonetheless, I loved the rest of the story.

Home Sweet Home ⭐⭐.5 - not sure what was going on here; it felt like a haunted house story.

Ruler of the Winds and Sands ⭐⭐⭐ - again, this was not really my type of story. However, the imagery used in this story was good.

Reunion ⭐⭐⭐ - this was a ghost story with quite the ending.

Overall, I did enjoy this collection of short stories. Bora Chung tackled the darker themes of her story well and included some beautiful imagery that set the scenes in some of these stories.

A mixed bag of great, okay and mediocre short stories. Sometimes the stories hit the mark and sometimes they don't, but the author at least tries to bring something new with each story... most of the time, that is. Goodbye, My Love was boring, had an overplayed plot and a narrator devoid of any life or charm.

Reunion was incredible, and definitely the best way to end this collection, despite being the most normal of the stories.

Best stories: The Embodiment, Cursed Bunny, The Frozen Finger (the only one genuinely creepy), Home Sweet Home and Reunion (so so sad!!)

Worst stories: Goodbye, My Love (it's been so overdone 😴) and The Head (the ending ruined it for me)

The rest is either okay or just not worth mentioning.

This book got me out of a reading slump and made me love short story collections. A masterpiece that will keep you up at night and weirdly develop a fear of your toilet.

Liked all short stories but feel like they should’ve been in a different order. IMO the first two seemed a bit too similar, or explored similar-ish themes.
I also think there was quite a strong folklore element to quite a few stories, which I liked but I haven’t rlly seen mentioned before.
Just a note, some of the stories do have some rather effed up content so be warned.

“Life shrinks into a trap made up of a shimmering moment in the past, a trap where they endlessly repeat that singular moment when they were surest of being alive. That moment is short, but long after it has passed, good times as well as bad slip like sand through their fingers as they meaninglessly repeat and confirm their survival.”

just so good. every story in here was like wow. wow. i’m in shock. i can’t even pick a favourite.

mind the trigger warnings! there are a LOT and each story has different ones but i’ve tried to tag the most significant.
