I had read this before, but I had only the vaguest memory of it. Something about a gymnasium and a tennis racket. I did not read the cover, so it came as a great surprise, 143 pages in, when it turns out that this is a Hercule Poirot mystery. Finally, Christie did to Poirot what she always did to Jane Marple in the early books: kept him out of the picture for most of the book. I was also pleased to discover that this is one of Christie's better books--one of the best of her later efforts (I am reading them in order, and I love most of the early ones, then the middle ones seem to bog down a bit.) Good plotting, interesting characters, and a nice big surprise at the end. Well done. I believe I will remember it better this time!

Another great novel by Agatha Christie, not necessarily predictable but I wasn’t gagged by the end like I have been in her other books.
