Shadowblack continues the tale of Kellen, his squirrel-cat familiar named Reichis, and the Argosi Ferius as they investigate an outbreak of shadowblack in an exclusive school attended by children of the elite from several lands.
I enjoyed this instalment of the Spellslinger series. It was a quick, but enjoyable read, and I find the progression of Kellen's development as he finds himself (he is a sixteen-year-old, after all) well done. Reichis, of course, is always a lovable (Oops, I mean fierce and wily) scamp. The central plot of the book, while self-contained in this instalment, reaches back and forward to help flesh out the overall story of Kellen and the Jan'Tep.
