Im sorry, Although I luke the concept of the book - I found it a chore yo read & complete.

The latter few pages where the events surrounding the disappearance where revealed were perhaps best few pages.

Ive given 2 starts, 1 because I liked the concept & the other as Emma has done research on working on lighthouses so I suppose the loneliness & claustrophobia were quite really authentic.

There you are, the blazing flame
It was you all along , I know your name
The light, the light, it burns for us
His ghost and mine, dissolved in dust

The writing style of this book was unusual, as much of the story is told in only one side of the conversations with an author writing a book about the mystery of three lighthouse keepers that disappeared from a lighthouse leaving no trace. Through this device the perspectives of the two wives and girlfriend of the three men are told, these chapters being interspersed with more narrative chapters from the points of view of these wives and girlfriend and the men themselves. There is a suggestion of supernatural involvement in the mystery, but this is never resolved. I enjoyed this book, it kept secrets and revealed them gradually like a treasure hunt. Beautiful descriptive writing that didn't feel overdone.

Took a while to get into it but ended up really liking it, the characters were brilliant, beautiful story, and definitely some men written by women - i.e. the best kind.
