i didn’t like it as much as the first book. but holy shit. this book did feel like the older, more grown up version of the first one. still kinda mind blown. ending is super realistic ngl, fantastic job on describing the trauma that comes with endings like that. story still doesn’t really come through in my head. i assume that’s because i’m still shocked about how the fuck this could all happen in a small town like Little Kilton.

The writing for this book was definitely better and I was impressed with how the author showed trauma both from the first book and at the end. I liked the pacing and style of book 1 more but the plot twists were better in this one. Overall it was good but it almost put me in a reading slump. Like book 1, the stakes didn’t directly affect pip until the very end (tho I do like that they happened earlier this book). I heard this series is getting turned into a tv show and I think it’ll be more entertaining to watch than to read. I really liked the evolution of pips and Ravi’s relationship and I look forward to finishing the series. Definitely not a top read for me but it’s super easy and quick.

It was harder to get into this book, but unlike its predecessor, I appreciated the maturity of this one, the idea that being exposed to investigations like this have an impact on the psyche.
