Set in a rough, working class neighborhood in Naples, My Brilliant friend focuses on the childhood friendship between Elena and Lila. The story is told from the perspective of Elena who initially meets Lila when the 2 girls are in first grade. Elena is drawn to Lila by her brash, bold and often "bad" behavior. The story is very much character-driven and follows the 2 girls up through their late teens. The girl's relationship is made up of various dimensions such as loyalty and jealousy.

I listened to this on audio and it kept me engaged throughout. It was a good book to listen to while cooking, cleaning, doing jigsaw puzzles etc. while in pandemic lockdown.

Another 4 star review! I loved this though - looking forward to reading the next instalments. Felt deeply about both girls - v emotional read.

My Brilliant Friend is the first installment of Ferrante’s Neapolitan trilogy. It is the story of a friendship between two girls growing up in Naples, Italy in the 1950s. Her way of telling the story felt so natural that I almost felt that that she was recalling her own story and all of this have really happened.

Ya chao. La novela capta muy bien la amistad entre mujeres, pero lamentablemente este libro solo abarca la niñez y adolescencia de los personajes principales, lo cual es un problema para mí porque tolero bien poco las historias que se centran en adolescentes, me aburren.
