If Voltaire and Mike Judge had a kid it might have written this: a social and political satire of the United States that's always turned to 11.
At first I thought it was hilarious and spot on, but it fell off my hands and I struggled to finish it.

I received a copy of this for free as a part of the trial Rosarium Mystery Box, and I had no idea what was going on going into this book. I had never read Candide, I wasn't real clear on what the deal with Candide was, and as a result I read most of this feeling a bit adrift.
The adriftness seemed... appropriate, somehow? So I didn't pause to look anything up. This is satire and most of the stereotypes being satirized are American, so I was familiar enough with them to not worry about any references to the original that I was missing.
This book was funny, but an uncomfortable kind of funny -- which, as a satire, I imagine was the point. I definitely closed the book with a feeling of "WHAT THE F DID I JUST READ?" but I was entertained?
This book is a wild, wild ride.
