The Lost Gate

Orson Scott Card

3.64 AVERAGE

Great new series from Orson Scott Card, interesting approach on a magical society that isn't known to the public, and our ties to ancestral magics.

I am so glad that Mr. Card decided to write a fantasy series. This book is definitely a product of Mr. Card's wit and his ability to develop characters concisely without falling into a quagmire of back-story.
adventurous

DNF'd

I wasn't sure about this book and as I read I found it to be too bogged down with Orson Scott Card-isms. I couldn't escape it. I'm just no longer at the age where I tolerate 10 year old boys who get picked on by their peers, but they are actually SO SPECIAL. The special-est. The best one. But no one can know because, reasons. And these 10 year old boys get into scrapes, but they never have to worry really because secretly they're sitting on this knowledge and power and can get themselves out in a snap if they like. Unfortunately they're saaaaaaad.

Yep. Done. Not my jam. Might have liked it when I was 10 years old, but now the cheese is too real and the Norse Mythology that drew me to this book was not enough to keep me reading it.

The story line is good but it has some VERY crude scenes that I found unnecessary.

Highly recommend this series!

I don't read much fantasy but this book maybe a gateway drug. I started the second book, the gate thief, the very same day. I always thought fantasy wasn't really for me, but I am really enjoying the combination of fantasy world, with our real world. Card is a master of spinning the magical world together with ours, and in doing so, he's created a lifelong fan in me. Fans of Harry Potter would probably really enjoy Danny stone and his misadventures as a young gate father. The mithermage series is certainly going to be a new favorite of mine.

A fantastic novel. I can't wait to read the second one in the series. Having been introduced to Loki through Whedon's Avengers movies, it's interesting to see this portrayal of him. I will have to brush up on this sort of mythology to truly appreciate the references and inspiration in this book, but it is wonderful nonetheless.

Really brilliant, pulls you in, awesome cast of characters and really interesting unique story line.
