For those of you who love satire, this one is a must. Voinovich pokes fun at the USSR's treatment of those who are considered loyal to it, making the reader laugh, but also realize under what type of government he was writing. I would recommend being about 15 or so before reading, as it will most likely go over your head.

isn't it terrifying how much we care about our reputation and our status? no matter how good we already have it, we always strive for the better; something that is supposedly missing in our lives and will fulfill us. at least this is what yelfilm thinks when he desperately wants to get his hands on a fur hat that isn't cat or rabbit; no, he wants a prestigious fur decorating his hat to garner the attention and respect of his community.

a really thought-provoking and interesting read that questions the purpose of our society through the use of a simple hat.
