This has one of the most unique voices I’ve read and captures Gen X ‘90s angst most poetically. The screenwriter lifted whole scenes and the best lines from the book - ‘you are not a beautiful and unique snowflake’ and ‘I am Joe’s …’

There’s a lot of repeated lines that get inserted into paragraphs randomly and if you’ve ever had insomnia and anxiety then you may relate to the unnamed narrator.

As a fan of the film, I knew the main plot, but the film was not a carbon copy of the book’s story, especially towards the end. I book was sadder if that was possible, and he revealed much more to the Marla character than what happened in the film.

The main thing I didn’t like was the descriptions of his unhealing hole in his cheek.

It’s a short read and a wild ride.

Just can't get into the writing style. If you have seen the movie, you pretty much have read the book.

Okay so for starters i didn't know why i found the first 100 pages of this book so compelling. The events happening at first were pretty mundane and yet there was a sense that the characters were slightly unhinged and were doing reckless things to make up for their some what lacking lives. However this novel was darkly hilarious at points and i found myself drawn into the world of Tyler.
As the book progresses things start to escalate.
