I enjoyed it overall! Fun reveals and writing, but sometimes too many similes and metaphors which is never something I thought I’d say. The characters were a bit annoying after a few chapters but then around the second half I was ok with it.

took me a while to get into it, but once i was hooked (around 1/4 of the way into the book), it was easy to keep on reading. writing style is a bit rambly/stream of consciousness style (a lot of tangents) but it was amusing to read. characters are lovable or end up becoming lovable/likable towards the end; it's easy to empathize or feel for all the characters; and, my favorite thing about the book: it's lovely seeing the connections formed among everyone, and how all their lives are changed for the better after. that plot twist of

the bank robber being a woman was something i did not see coming, and i had to go back to previous chapters to see if that plot twist was hinted at (it was), but i was also disappointed with myself for assuming the robber was a man. after all, in a heterosexual relationship, if there's a partner who cheats on you with your boss, kicks you out of the apartment, and threatens to take the kids away from you, there's a good chance the asshole partner is a guy and not a girl lol.

a heartwarming read. might seem a bit too perfect with how everything worked out in the end + too many coincidences, but i needed this kind of read LOL so it didn't bother me as much! good if you want to read a book that's a bit melancholic but is ultimately hopeful in the end. :")

4.2 stars. Such a beautifully written novel about the intricacies of life. Everything is woven together, an invisible string. Backman really makes you feel it with this one. It’s relatable in the best way. I think Beartown was so much more emotional, but this was beautiful.
