Interesting concept but maybe there were a few too many life lessons clumsily pushed in. I wish the main plot had been fleshed out a bit further which might have made it feel a bit less like a self help book. Would recommend to others especially if you have read and enjoyed othe Backman books before.

“Our brains are lying to us, telling us we’re going to die. But there’s nothing wrong with our lungs, Zara. We’re not going to die, you and I”
Up until around the halfway mark I was going to give this book only 4 stars. But then I got closer to the end and I can’t give it anything but 5. This book is one of the books that’s reminds me why I love reading. It was so inspiring and made me feel less alone in the world. Whenever I feel like I’m the only one who doesn’t have my shit together, this book reminds me there is absolutely no one in the world who thinks they have their shit together. We’re all just figuring it out.
This book is going to have a special place in my heart for sure. I love it.

i thought this was a nice light hearted read and i Cried my eyes out for the last 10% 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
hmmm sometimes irritating, occasionally funny, predictable outcomes and characters who are a bit too stereotypical but I finished it and despite knowing how it was going to end I persisted - and these days there are a lot of books where I don't bother.
I would first like to thank my daughter for not permitting me to DNF Anxious People at about page 100, because she said the ending would be worth dealing with the first part. Although the ending was nice and reasonably wrapped-up, I did not overall enjoy this book for two reasons:
The first reason I did not enjoy Anxious People is that the characters were all pretty much rip-you-hair-out-obnoxious-rude people way more than they seemed to be "Anxious" people. I didn't like anyone except for Jim and the psychologist. And, I liked them because they seemed pretty beaten down, but still insisted on trying to be decent. Zara was basically evil incarnate, based on what she knew and how she treated the psychologist. Ok, Estelle was cute. I'll give her that.
The second reason I did not enjoy Anxious People was that the author decided he was going to rewrite the alphabet as DEFJLTMZQRIABPWOVNIKRCGSHXUYZ. So, there were bits and pieces of scenes flung in pretty random order all over the place, sometimes re-writing a scene so that it didn't match what the version was the first time you read it.
2.5 stars, rounded up to 3 because of the psychologist. She needs her own story.
