I gave this one 4 stars I think because I just loved Beartown so much. Maybe not fair as this book is equally wonderful, just in a very different way. Edit to change rating to 5 stars after wonderful book club discussion.

This was my fourth Backman and least favorite of the bunch. The story was ok but I didn't connect with the characters like I did with his other books.
Everyone go read this right now. So good. No one develops characters like Backman does. I fell in love from the first page and stayed in love the entire book. I felt so seen.

This was such a fun read! It was my first Fredrik Backman book and I was delighted to discover how quirky this was.
The book was described as a "poignant comedy about a crime that never happened" so I assumed it would be a character driven story. But the book still reads like a mystery - the plot unfolding with just enough information to keep you guessing but never quite enough.
There were twists and turns, and it kept me on my toes. The writing style is a bit of an acquired taste, but I flew through the pages once I understood the tone of the book. An uplifting, easy read.
