This is not a book I would normally pick up to read. But when I started to read it I was engulfed by the raw feelings of the main character (which I later discovered was in fact the author as this is autobiographical).
There are parts throughout the book where it jumps in time, sometimes it is a relevant memory, but other times I found it hard to reason as to why this "tidbit" had been inserted.
I think I would have liked to have known more about the process the main character had to go through for his daughter, as a lot of the book it about how the system doesn't always work, but I was intrigued as to the details of how it all worked out in the end.

Tom Malmquist skriver på ett sätt som jag önskar jag skrev på. Livet och döden. Kontraster som tvinas ihop och på något sätt lyckas framstå som en hyllning till det levande, till allt det vi har fastän sorgen tynger.

I wish there had been a bit more of an exploration into certain topics and the time jumps can be a bit confusing. Lovely and raw.

Starter med hjertet oppe i halsen. De første 100 sider om det man ved der sker er meget intense. Men så skal vi høre om ham og hans familie og venner - og så går bogen desværre i stå. Han virker også som en nar meget af tiden.

I agree with other readers that this book lacked feeling and the writing was choppy. Not to take anything away from Mr. Malmquist's story as it is a sad one but it felt like I was on the outside looking in. Which I never "got in". This type of book, is one where I want to experience everything as if it was personally my story.

Where it came to the choppiness; the chapters and writing were short with little details. Don't get me wrong as I am not saying that the author had to give us the readers all the details but a little more detail or at least a little more insight into Mr. Malmquist's life before meeting his wife would have helped. I do applaud Mr. Malmquist for sharing his story. In my case, I just craved more.

Tom's very pregnant girlfriend Karin takes a quick turn for the worse and they end up in the hospital. Tom must make medical decisions for both his dying girlfriend and his premature baby girl and live with the outcomes as they come.

This book has an editorial thing that drives me batty! It has no punctuation when it comes to dialogue and for me that makes it harder to read and overall a frustrating experience. I wish that there was a standard that all books had to have to allow for all people to have an easy reading experience.

Maybe because this book is set in Stockholm and I am not familiar with the culture there, but on almost every page I wanted to smack Tom. For being a husband going through an extremely difficult situation he was so rude and offputting to all the medical staff. I just couldn't handle his attitude towards all of the nurses and doctors, I wanted him to get his stuff together and act better.

All in all I just couldn't get around this book. The premise was right up my alley, but between the lack of punctuation and Tom as a character, I just couldn't.

Like many of the other reviews I found this a challenging read because of the lack of quotation marks and general structure- maybe it was an artistic choice? It seems more jumbled in the beginning and straightens out a little bit towards the end which is maybe a good representation of the authors feelings of those time. I didn't feel a lot of emotion in this book and I feel like the character was unecessarily blunt and cruel at times, to the point of being autistic. I couldn't connect with the story despite working in the field and being able to picture how this would have played out. There was lots missing for me in this book, but maybe it's just the style, maybe the Swedish culture.
