It’s a little scattered. Kind of depressing. Wonder if the TV show might be more interesting as an adaptation.

an unpredictable blend of madness and coherence. lucid and bonkers. a strange book for sure. a little exhausting to read but i was very impressed by the concept of the book. pkd tried to pack so much into a short novel. conversations were a little awkward and stilted at points. felt a bit forced at times. nonetheless, i was pleasantly surprised. the parts of the book that worked, worked well. pkd has a spectacular vocabulary. but he uses it minimally for narrative flow. the result is a very balanced reading experience. both entertaining and intellectual. thought provoking yet rapidly paced. never sacrificing narrative tempo for intellectual degression. a provocative and deeply bizarre reading experience.

I went into this fully expecting ro like it, but it just did not click for me at all. I found it cold, austere, lacking in an emotional core, and also quite hard to follow at times. I thought it was a novel about life under totalitarianism but it seems mostly to be a novel about Taoism and the I Ching. At one point a character spends like 15 pages having an existential crisis which he tries to resolve by pulling the spirit of Tao (?) out of a piece of jewelry. The final chapter has a mystifying encounter with the titular Man in the High Castle during which absolutely nothing is resolved. Really the whole thing lacks any kind of driving force or any sort of resolution regarding anything. I just don't get it.

Nothing happened.

No real plot or action. I wish it was better. I still plan to watch the episodes and hope they are better.
