Interesting book to finish on December 7. Interesting premise offset by wallowing in Eastern philosophy and too much internal dialogue. Irritating diction. Lack of verbs, articles irritated.

I wasn't sure what to make of this one. Philip K. Dick's writing style is strong--the chapter involving
SpoilerJuliana and Joe in the hotel
was, I thought, especially evocative--and it certainly kept me reading. I think I expected more of a plot in the conventional sense, which this novel really didn't have--instead, it's something of a study of the lives of various characters within the alternate world that the author has created--and consequently, I think I was waiting for more of a payoff than there was; I found the ending fairly baffling. I would say that the book puzzled me, on the whole, but that I did find it absorbing.
