An ill-defined journey with little direction. I felt cheated by the story, as there was little payoff. Adding rape jokes and sexual assault as an aside that really contributed nothing to the story, as well as hollow protagonists with little motivation added up to a forgettable and disappointing experience.
Minor: Racism, Rape, and Sexual violence

Moderate: Rape, Sexual assault, and Sexual violence
There is a SA (r*pe) of the main character, Kinch, about ten hours into the book. It was not described in detail, but was still wildly out of place and felt unnecessary to any part of the story.chilled_grease's review against another edition

I had a really hard time getting through what I did with this book. The writing just wasn’t very good. I know the author was excited about world building; but it was just just so forced; overloading the reader with details about the different races; gods; magic systems; and then a long drawn out chapter detailing the the rules of a fictional card game that culminated in the main character being raped by another man; and not being very upset about it.
This is where the book lost me; first you had the bad writing; followed by clumsy world building; but you lost me at the homosexuality.
I’m out; wish I hadn’t started; can’t wait to read something else.
