6 general paths of adulthood - becoming an authority figure, being full of conceit, an alcoholic/ addict, stuck in a loop of pointless capitalism, and working a repetitive and endless 9-5, fixing yourself as a singular cog in the system to the point that you’ve told yourself that you cannot in any case try anything other than what you are already “destined” to do. it’s scary to think that someday i’ll likely be stuck in one or many of them. sometimes i feel like i already am and i hate it. when the prince got up to the lamp post planet, i thought it was funny that he found the lamplighters job silly because he couldn’t find reason in it. the first part of the book states that adults always need an explanation, but in the lamplighters case, it was the prince wanting an explanation. but then they’re explanations for very different things. adults ask for explanations due to a lack of imagination, whereas in the lamplighters case, the prince asked because he’s questioning the way that the world is, trying to grasp a better meaning. but then is that not what adults are doing in their own way when they ask for an explanation of why the boa constrictor drawing should scare them?
