I struggled with this review let me explain why:
I love the concept, and the plot but struggled with connecting with the characters. I found some contradictions in the story and I found myself getting frustrated at how things were explained when there was no purpose to it, it didn't add anything to the story or give me further insight into the character. My last whinge without spoilers was the fight scene...it felt rushed and just fell flat. Like I said I loved the story and wanted to love this book but just didn't.

Meh! I don't know about this one, it was dull for all I know, so predictable, nothing that could make the story a page turner.
But I'm really curious to know the rest.

Wow!
I read this is one sitting. I really loved the storyline - auras, magic and paranormal - what's not to love. The story had some strengths but there was a an obvious weakness. I think it was the over-explanation of things. Certain points in the story seemed forced - or 'messy' - this distracted me and made me lose the flow of the events. Besides this - it was great how the seemingly innocent course of events leads to the interaction of this core group of people. This was cleverly executed. I connected well with the characters and have my faves. Things are left up in the air - so major cliffhanger ( which I am not a fan of - but understand why authors do that). I would check out book 2 if I happen across it.

I think that this got some rough reviews. It is definitely NOT an adult story, I think it would be best for younger teenagers.
I liked the POV change for every Chapter. It's not for everyone but I like it.
I am very interested in reading the next one.

I really enjoyed this book, so much so that I could hardly put it down. For this being her first book, it was done amazingly well. There were some parts in it that I believe could have done with a little more work, but it was nothing big enough to mess with the story. I found myself drawn into this world and very much look forward to reading the next one.

Book Review
Title: The White Aura
Author: Felicia Tatum
Genre: YA/Fantasy/Romance
Rating: *****
Review: The opening to The White Aura was great, we are following Scott and Olivia. Olivia keeps having vivid and sometimes steamy dreams about a mysterious man she has never met. We learn that Scott is a very powerful sorcerer and Olivia is his heart mate but because of a powerful curse he can't meet her before her 18th birthday or she will die, we also see he uses his ability of dream walking in order to invade her dreams. I loved the dual perspectives in the novel as well learn more about the characters individually rather than as a couple which is a common trope in YA novels.
As we approach the 1/4 mark in the novel we see Olivia changing, she is attracted to a boy called Aiden at her school but is torn because of her mystery man but she isn't sure he is real or just a figment of her imagination. I also found Olivia's parents to be very strange and it feels like they are hiding something from Olivia all the while we are wondering what Scott is going to do especially if Olivia gets involved with Aiden. I liked the fact there were no chapters but just one continuous story told from two perspectives which is something I don't see a lot of. As we cross the 1/4 mark in the novel, Scott is looking for a way to break the curse on their family and along the way he learns that Aiden is also a sorcerer and an evil one at that. At this point I was really getting into the novel and some of the characters mentioned I recognized from Scornful Sadie and was really eager to see what happened to them as it is only hinted at in the Dark Sorceress series. Scott believes Aiden is the Crimson Calamitous, a very dark sorcerer who swore revenge after his lover Delana was murdered we also get hints that Aiden somehow is going to use Olivia to bring Delana back. Scott knows she is in danger around Aiden but he can't risk revealing himself to her without killing her, for now he just lingers in the back of her mind keeping watch. Olivia during this time also begins to feel something is wrong with Aiden and this could be her own powers awakening or just her intuition.
As we approach the half way mark in the novel Olivia knows things about Scott and does her best to believe and trust him while Scott continues to watch over her while looking for a way to break the curse and deal with the Crimson Calamitous without being Olivia in more danger. We also discover the real reason why the Crimson Calamitous aka CC wants Olivia and what he intends to do with her given the chance. As we cross into the second half of the novel, Olivia goes through a change and is struggling to deal with what is happening to her and her parents seem to be of very little help making her feel very alone. At this point in the novel the tension is ramped up and the pacing of the novel slowly begins to speed up.
As we approach the 3/4 mark in the novel we see Olivia's powers developing although none of the sorcerer's have a clue what she is. She also experiences visions of her friends dying at the school dance in a few days time. Scott and Mark have a plan to try and stop the CC but they doubt whether it will work and if Scott can't keep himself hidden it may mean the end of more than one innocent life. As we cross into the final section of the novel the day of the dance has arrived and tensions are running high for all the characters especially Olivia and Scott. Olivia is very concerned for her friend and weary of Aiden while Scott has started to experience the heart pain's and needs to be with Olivia very soon or he could end up dying. The battle scene at this end of this novel was superb and couldn't have been written better. I liked the way Tatum drew the characters together and forged eternal bonds of friendship between them all. The final pages of this novel were brilliant the resolution was great but with a wide opening for the second novel The Vessel which I can't wait to pick up.
Overall, I found this novel to be gripping from the very beginning, following the journey these characters follow was amazing and you form huge attachments to each and everyone of them. I highly recommend this book and its author to all and if you haven't read anything by Felicia Tatum yet I recommend you do it right now.

I don't want to be harsh on this book, but I can't help it. it had some great points... But those were vastly outnumbered by the crap. the magic immortal, just a step away from being twilight crap. don't want to explain something? oh, just don't. something doesn't make sense? magic! And of course she is a special little butterfly after all.... yeah, I could have probably skipped this one and be none the worse off.

This book was hard to put down, the plot drew me in, and the over all the storyline kept me wanting answers along with the characters. The book goes back and forth between the two main characters which I LOVE, it also has more dialog than most books i'd say. These two things added to my emotional connection with the characters in the story. The main character in this story is in High School, so while her thoughts and worries do seem a little artificial, high schoolers can be over dramatic about stuff that doesn't matter so I feel it does fit.

Being that this is the Authors first book I am not going to hold it against her that it does need a hard edit, and there is some major cheese throughout the story. But it is a young adult, paranormal book so I also feel the cheese / cliche is to be expected.

Though the writing seemed a bit immature, the story was quite enjoyable. It had a similar vibe as the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout, with aura's and supernatural stuff.
