A beautiful romantic story filled with laughs and love. The main characters and supporting cast were all so charming and fun to read about. We need more light and fun trans rom-coms in the world and this book is one that you can't miss.

Unexpectedly camp, which was so fun. A 16 year old boy making Poets’ Diegest Sexiest Poets list. Sparkly horse trading cards. A 12-year old genius who goes by Blaze A. Destroyer (Of Worlds) and talks like he’s in a period piece. A beautiful and hopeful trans, queer book with everything exaggerated in perfect form. Took me a little time but once you lean into it, it’s a lot of fun.

I went into this book not really knowing what to expect. Admittedly, my expectations were low just because I wasn't sure if I would be able to connect with the main character. I went in expecting a basic school roommates-turned-lovers plot and that was it.
But oh I was wrong and I am so happy that I was!
First of all no, that's not your generic school/roommates plot. While it implements the trope, the story covered so much more than that - secret society (sort of), struggles of scholarship students, relationships between people (platonic and not only), hierarchy in the academy, academic goals and the pressure of it, hidden identities (sort of) and tons more. I was so captivated by everything that was happening and not for a single moment did I feel bored.
I learned a lot through that book too and the way Charlie's struggles with being transgender were handled was really good, I believe. It made me think of things I haven't considered before, it made me realize stuff that hasn't really come to my mind before. I love books that so unexpectedly give me new knowledge of something.
The romance in this book was the sweetest thing ever. I don't think it was the main event of the book but it didn't feel like it was lacking in that aspect. I love slow burn and I love it when books can combine romance with other storylines without it feeling like something is missing. Now I would've loved this book to be 1000 pages long so we could see more of Charlie and Jasper being boyfriends but maybe a sequel could be a nice surprise 👀
The found family in this book was everything too. Charlie finally finding his place and feeling like he belonged someone for once, it was all so beautiful to read about. I love it so much that he found his people and that he got his happily ever after because this boy deserves the world. He's such an endearing character and so is Jasper - they're so precious to me and I love them both so much. Seriously, can a sequel get released?!
It's not like this book didn't have any flaws - I can say that the revelation of who Charlie really is did feel a bit anticlimactic. But honestly everything else in this book was so good that this in particular doesn't take away from my enjoyment or that how much I loved reading this work.
I'd love to read more of this author's books and I am so happy I came across ATWR. It's honestly one of my favorite books of the year.

Super cute, and a fantastic take on a second chance romance.
The writing is definitely giving Casey McQuiston vibes (specifically The Pairing), but for a YA audience.
If you liked this but wanted something a little more mature, try The Prospects by KT Hoffman.
