This was a quirky, enjoyable read. The whole “strange private school” setup has vibes of magic school but without the magic, without the TERFW, and with a trans protagonist. I love the theme of a second chance romance being before and after a transition because *it’s the same person* and in fact it trans people only become MORE themselves when they finally get to come out and live authentically. Technically this is YA but it’s a great and important read for anyone.
Moderate: Dysphoria
Minor: Transphobia

liked the premise and the rep
the chapters being named after classics is cool but there’s little reference to the content of said classics, mostly to their names
i found some plotlines too abrupt pr not developed enough
school rules, ranking system and high competition seem too strict for a realistic english speaking county, but maybe i am missing something
unrealistic as well seems the possibility to medically transition in a couple of years as a minor but also!! maybe i don’t know something + nice representation of trans experience and relationships, both platonic and romantic

The best way I can describe how I felt about this was at the end I wanted to do a little happy dance and I was genuinely kicking my feet and giggling ok
Was the dialogue cringy at times ? Yes of course it’s a YA romcom. Did I love it and eat it up? You know I did
All of these characters are so fun and I love them so dearly !! I genuinely don’t think there was a character I hated (except for maybe PM idk what he was doing but his existence was rude)
I love the way the representation was in this book ! it felt authentic, especially in the way that it can often feel like your identity is going to ruin everything even though it’s the most authentic version of yourself, and that idea was really well explored in the lighthearted way it was written !
My favorite parts are where Charlie (who is one of the smartest guys in that school) is so unbelievably dense and stupid that he just ruins everything for himself. It’s so funny every time and I love him so much for it because he’s so me fr
