It was cute, but very corny YA. I think the only YA I’m enjoying at the moment are ones with fantasy elements.

A pleasant read, but it had its flaws. I did not quite see the attraction between Charlie and Jasper. There was no flashback to tell us why they fell for each other at camp, and nothing really in the present that made me see the attraction. Objectively yes, I could see the good in both characters, but since Charlie spends much of the book complaining about and being annoyed with Jasper, the attraction seems a bit unfounded.
That being said, I loved a lot of it. I loved how supportive the characters were of each other, how little toxic masculinity there was, despite the story taking place in an all-boys high school. I loved the nerdiness, how unapologetically intelligent everyone was. I loved the portrayal of an trans character, and since the writer is a trans man, it feels like it would be an accurate portrayal of the emotions and the experience of a trans man. And naming every chapter after a book — swoon!
