UGH! I love Star Wars but I especially love Gay Star Wars.
I could say more but y'all this book had sapphics, gay Jedis, grumpy violent cats, badass rogues, and Force spirituality. I was never meant to be objective about this book. I just loved it.

Didn’t like this as much as other High Republic books, but it was still pretty good.
I love that we have an aroace character, and even more that it’s Vern. That girl is cool 🙂
I feel this book is mostly a set-up for the next ones, and it gave me a bit of middle book syndrome vibes. Like it’s trying to be it’s own thing but relies too much on past and future plots. A shame because there were good points in there.

I really liked all the connections to and implications for the rest of the High Republic phase 1 series, but the pacing was inconsistent. I wanted to spend more time on things that were glossed over or hastily resolved in a page, but other things were repeated more than necessary. The book is worth reading to see familiar characters and to understand the setup for Tempest Runner (and I’m sure further books as well), but this is the weakest THR project to-date, in my opinion.

Overall a really fun Star Wars book that filled in a lot of the backstory that you get in The Fallen Star. Overall, a really fun Star Wars read and a fun adventure. I do think there was just one too many perspectives in this story (like I love the character, but what value, exactly, did the Reath chapters bring to the story?) and I think it took a bit long for all the storylines to converge. But overall, a fun read and a good time.

With the events of The Rising Storm , things have taken a darker turn in this new era of Star Wars storytelling. The tragic events of that book can be felt throughout this one, already creating an atmosphere doubt, uncertainty, and mistrust amongst the Jedi and the people of the Republic. In this YA continuation of the series, Ms. Ireland takes the reader through a tale drowning in intrigue and mystery, but wraps things up too quickly.
