Rounded up to 4, but I’d say it’s a solid 3.5. It’s a good book, but also not my favorite by Swanson. It kept me thinking and had me convinced of a couple different possibilities for who is behind the killings. Quick read.
the leading up to the reveal wasn’t super gripping for me but the ending explanation made up for it. very much “i know what you did last summer” meets “murder on the orient express”
3/3.5 stars
There’s nothing spectacular wrong with Nine Lives but there’s not anything outstanding about it as well.
It’s just an average thriller that was an easy read.
The plot is about 9 people getting a list in the mail. Each person on the list has no idea why they’re on a list and who the other names are.
One of the people on the list, FBI agent Jessica Winslow just has a feeling that the list means much more then some junk mail.
She starts digging into the names when one of the people is found dead on the beach. As she starts looking into each person on the list, they start dying in different ways and the pressure increases on what they all have in common with the other.
The writing for this was good and the plot twist of the killer was revealed sooner then I would have liked.
Nine Lives is a love letter to Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None and it was fun to see the similarities between the two.
If you are looking for a fun, engaging and easy thriller, this might be a good book to pick up!

pretty sure im confused and don’t understand the book. why were all the POVs needed when all it did was provide confusion and pointless info? it really fell flat for me.
This is my first Peter Swanson book and will not be my last. I loved every moment of this fast-paced mystery. I was hooked from the beginning and did not see the end coming. I love that each chapter was told from a different character's POV. The characters are well developed and likable with an unbelievable twist at the end that connects all of the dots!
Thank you, NetGalley for the advanced reader copy.

Rounded down to 2.5. Too many characters and their back stories to keep up with, it would have been more interesting to find out about the stories of the real people that committed the crime.
Nine strangers receive a piece of paper with their names in the mail, with eight others on the list. While none are connected, a frightening pattern emerges as they are murdered, one after the other. Albeit a well-written novel, Nine Lives isn't a particularly original one. I also don't think the motive makes much sense, and the particular OP-type villain isn't my favorite.

I’ve made 2 attempts to read this book, but it’s not engaging. Plus there are only 2 narrators for NINE different people!?!?! No way in the world this was going to work for me. All the people were hard to keep track of, and with only 2 narrators, it’s even harder to flow along and be invested with knowing who’s whom.
