The book was okay, but not one that will stick with me. I don't feel it had any strong message, or was particularly fun to read.

If you’re a horny agoraphobe who is uncomfortably active on r/taboocaptions, then this book is for you. If your takeaway from reading anything published by Freud wasn’t to create the next generation of Hapsburgs, then these books probably aren’t for you.

a fucking relentlessly miserable experience!
Graphic: Incest, Rape
if you’re looking for horror, yes it certainly is.
i will not be reading anything else from this series.

I was recommended this book by a friend, who claimed the incestuous relationship in this book was designed to make the reader the uncomfortable. So I went into it with that in mind, but as much as I tried, I couldn’t get over the way their relationship was portrayed. Maybe this is more of a personal preference than genuine criticism.

God this was disturbing, probably shouldn’t have read it at 12. Then again, disturbing is what makes good horror.

I only read this book because I remember it being the only book my grandma and mom ever spoke of enjoying when I was younger. Now that I look back, I don't remember them ever giving a reason why. And honestly, how could they have? Despite the cringey subject matter, the writing style felt cheap. There were particular points V.C. Andrews made sure to stick in and then nothing came of it. It felt like it was only trying to get a momentary rise out of me by dangling drama and then it hoped I had forgotten about it by the time it was supposed to deliver. Nothing hit hard--even the "plot twists" were visible a mile away. It fell flat even when it tried so hard to shock.
