An exhilarating trip through the American space program from Mercury to Apollo. Gives a very good glimpse into the mentality and intensity of those involved, encompassing the political, the scientific, NASA and Mission Control along with the astronauts themselves. Solid book!

A reminder of when America was great and took on challenges rather than running away from them (global warming).

The author is not a natural writer but he is a great communicator - and I learnt a new respect for how these people managed to come up with solutions to problems while under immense pressure.

I also have to say it is a bit of a geek fest!

A superbly detailed and well written memoir by White Flight who was involved in America's space programme from the early days of Mercury through to Apollo 17.

As someone who was 12 when the first moon landing took place the story outlined in ingrained in my DNA. It remains a tragedy that almost 50 years on no other astronauts have flown beyond earth orbit.

Complusory (and compulsive) reading for anyone interested in space travel.
