I always listen to audiobooks, some books seem like they a meant to be heard. This is one of them. The book was told from three different POV: Now - with the MC waking up from a coma, Then - Just before the accident & Before - about 20 yrs earlier. This was a good book, but I gave it 4 ⭐ instead of 5 because even though it was a good read it was a little slow. The first twist I figured out halfway through but it still dragged. There is a second twist (kind of) and the story ends like there is a sequel. Written in 2017 and I read this in 2024, still no sequel.
Narrated by Stephanie Racine.

Amber Reynolds is a liar, she's also in a coma and thinks that someone put her there on purpose. Deep in her sleep in a hospital room, Amber begins to piece together the last weeks before her accident through those around her, revealing a terrifying and unsettling lead-up to a car crash that almost left her dead. Through a childhood diary, the days before the accident, and her current life in a coma, the readers see into Amber's past and down a twisty path with shocking revelations.

I have to applaud Alice Feeney for her writing style which was poetic and engaging. She really got into the head of each character and made us, the reader, feel sorry for them, vengeful, angry and upset about their trauma, but there was too much in this book that went unanswered for me to log it as a satisfying read. Characters not having motives, others getting away with heinous crimes with no justice, and a very confusing plot twist that had me considering getting out a pen and paper to try and break it down. I will read more books by Alice because her writing style gels with me, but this one was too over the top to be enjoyable.

Whoof. What a psychological thriller!! This book really had me to the very end. I don’t think I could’ve guessed what was coming at any point, which is rare for me since I’m usually decent at solving puzzles. Truly so many turns that I actually am still reeling from the ending.

PS this book should have a TW for sexual assault and rape.

I think I read this book too far apart to really give a intelligent review. I will say that all of the characters sucked, but especially the main character and her sister. Definitely check out content warnings because this book had a lot of them...
